INTEGRATED WASTEWATER MANAGEMENT

Since 2006, Veolia has been managing all wastewater treatment facilities at a subsidiary of Sinopec, China’s largest oil and gas company and the third largest in the world. Veolia operates a complete array of industrial wastewater collection, treatment and recycling plants at the Yanshan petrochemical complex, located 50 kilometers southwest of central Beijing. In all, Veolia manages four effluent treatment plants with a total daily capacity of 87,600 cubic meters, plus two recycling units that handle 40,800 cubic meters per day. The recycled water is reinjected into the facility’s production process to reduce its water requirements.

MATERIALS RECYCLING AND RECOVERY

Veolia has refined its treatment operations over time to reflect changing production processes at the Yanshan site, constantly drawing on the latest technology to meet the customer’s needs as effectively as possible. The most recent innovation involves using a customized liquid-liquid extraction technology to process effluent from the brominated rubber manufacturing plant and recover reusable bromine residue. In addition, Veolia has recently added to the treatment options already in place by installing a biological treatment process based on a Moving Bed Biological Reactor (MBBR) system. Further innovations designed to increase the recycling rate have been proposed and currently await Sinopec’s approval.

Thanks to the relationship we’ve built with Sinopec over the years and the mutual trust we’ve established, Veolia is able to offer solutions that build on the latest innovations and provide the greatest added value.”
